Two Three-Row Choices at Toyota

June 16th, 2016 by

In addition to the Toyota Highlander, Toyota has added a three-row 4Runner to its line-up. Here’s a quick rundown of their differences and similarities. For more fun, see them side by side at Gloucester Toyota dealer serving Hampton Roads VA.

Performance
The Highlander can save you money at the gas pump with either its smart four-cylinder engine or its hybrid powertrain. It offers a 270-horsepower V-6 that matches the 4Runner’s only powertrain choice. The Highlander comes in front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The 4Runner’s rear-wheel drive benefits from an automatic limited slip differential. Toyota also offers two all-wheel drive choices, a terrain-mode select, and a crawl feature for the adventure-minded 4Runner. Learn about pricing.

Appearance
The rugged 4Runner and the refined Highlander both offer big cabins with plenty of wiggle room for your kids on two rows. Favorite features include a power liftgate, a reclining second row, and standard power front seats. Both offer heated seats and leather upholstery. Both offer the Entune touchscreen with HD radio and smartphone integration. Only the Highlander is offering a rear entertainment center or a panoramic sunroof. The Highlander also has more soft-touch trim and ambient lighting.

Safety
The 2016 Toyota 4Runner has eight airbags and front active headrests. The special build gives the cabin more protection against outside intrusions. The 2016 Highlander has a five-star federal safety rating as well as an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus designation. The Highlander offers a blind spot monitor, forward collision warning and a lane alert. Value your trade.
